Fayda's Tarts

I wasn’t too happy today, so I decided to cheer myself up with pastries. I always like to look at tarts and cakes but never buy them.

Fay Da cheesecakes

There’s a lot of cheesecakes, but I can only handle so much. I like cheesecakes, but not that much.

Fay Da's Chocolatey stuff

There were also chocolate cakes and brownies, but I’m not actually too much of a chocolate fan either. So what is my taste preferences? Fruits!

Pastries from Fay Da

From left to right:
- Top Row: Chocolate Mousse, Coffee Mousse, Mango Mousse, Strawberry Mousse
- 2nd Row: Opera Cake, Raspberry Cheesecake, Strawberry Mousse Roll
- 3rd Row: Mixed Fruit Tart, Marble Cheesecake, Normandy Cheesecake, Chestnut Tart
- 4rd Row: Tiramisu Cup, Charlotte Mango Cup, Flan with Tapioca Cup

I bought the Mango Mousse, Mango Cup and Chestnut Tart for my sister (since I’m allergic to mango and don’t really like chestnut paste).

The taste results: The flan and tiramisu was pretty standard, though I thought the tiramisu was a bit too creamy. The Normandy cheesecake was unexpectedly delicious, and the also loved the fruit tart. The mousses also taste pretty good. I don’t know why people prefer Taipan more, I like Fay Da just fine.

*WARNING — Not all Fay Das are the same. Do not attempt to buy anything from the Fay Da by Hong Kong Supermarket. Most of their items are not fresh!

Lobster Thermidor

Lobster Bisque

It was the end of Restaurant week, which sort of turned into Restaurant month, which I’m not surprised due to the recession, but I wanted to go to City Crab for a special item on their menu, the Lobster Thermidor. Frank didn’t get one of the Restaurant menu prix fixe because his original choice, the Crab meat stuffed Idaho Rainbow Trout, ran out (I guess there was no more trout). Frank got a lobster bisque for an appetizer, but it was a bit too salty.

Crab Cake Trio

My Crab Cake Trio was actually quite nice, albeit small. It consisted of Maine peekytoe, Maryland and Louisiana crab cakes, with a bacon in the middle (really odd, but tastes good). I’m not sure which is which, but one of the crab meat does taste a lot better than the others.

Maine Lobster Newburg

Helen’s appetizer was a creamy lobster dish in a puff pastry shell. She didn’t seem too enthusiastic over it.

Broiled Atlantic Salmon

Helen loved her main dish though, it was the perfect salmon for her. I didn’t like the taste of ginger or salmon, so I’m not really really good critic for this dish.

Baked Shrimp Imperial

Frank’s dish taste good, but he seemed a little disappointed. Maybe because he anticipated rainbow trout.

Lobster Thermidor

And then, my Lobster Thermidor came! It tasted really good, aside from the fact it was probably a little bit overcooked, which made the meat a little tougher than usual. It wasn’t as heavily creamy as the lobster thermidor from London Lennies, so I don’t feel too overwhelmed by it at all.

Key Lime Pie

My key lime pie was a bit on the sour end, but I guess that’s how key lime pies are suppose to be.

NY Style Cheesecake

Frank’s cheesecake was delicious though. I kept picking at his dessert, which probably isn’t good table manners.

Sorbet Sampler

We didn’t try Helen’s sorbet, but she didn’t seem able to finish it, so it was probably a bit too standard for her.
